Many classes have their own balance of speed, resilience, and combat abilities. The player starts as the Hero class and can access more classes by finding threads to give to Margaret at the Tailor Shop. Classes can be switched freely anytime at the players home. Changing class does not require a new save slot.
Each class has their own unique skill:
Hero: A standard class, balanced between offense, defense and speed. Shuffle and charge up a swift dash, which can carry the hero as far as they want to go. Cuts through anything in the way.
Thief: Nimble but deadly. This class has high speed but lack in defense. Fade into the shadows, allowing you to move quickly and strike the enemy with a 100% critical hit.

Knight: A moving brick wall, the sturdy Knight carries a bigger sword and shrugs off damage. This class can leap through the air and slam down, damaging nearby objects and stunning enemies. A great tank for team compositions.

Ranger: When playing as a team this class excels from the back lines, softening up targets or taking out enemy casters. As a solo Ranger you can utilize their dash ability to quickly reposition and keep your enemies at optimal distance. A fully upgraded bow is almost as strong as the best sword. The ranger is also one of the best classes for exploration due to their high speed and dash skill, which allows to walk on swamps, thus not needing Mud Boots.
Mechanics: 50% chance for enemies defeated by arrows to drop arrows

Thread source: You need to first acquire the Grappling Hook from Dungeon 1 (Terakar Keep), and upgrade it a bit in order to reach the Granite Hills region in the north east of the map. Then you have to beat the Hilltop Mines dungeon in that area and search the cave across the bridge from the dungeon exit. There you'll find the Druid thread, which can be brought to the Rusty Needle just like the other class threads to unlock the class.
